Witch Hazel salves

  • Botanical name: hamamelis
    • Parts used: bark or leaves.
    • Other names: hazel nut, spotted elder
    •  Uses:  astringent, tonic and styptic

Witch Hazel salve is concentrated, mild; but very effective and is used for all around healing. Witch hazel bark [stronger] and leaves have astringent properties. It is also styptic [retards bleeding]

Most preparations use an alcohol base, with only trace amounts of the herb. Alcohol dries the skin without giving intended results.

Lynne's note: This is a excellent salve for hemorrhoids. No harmful and unnecessary ingredients, our own recipe and special preparation.

We suggest stop using over-the-counter and/or prescription preparations [also other herbal preparations] a few days before this ointment is applied, to let the skin be clear for herbal treatment

Just thought I would let you know that I tried the witch hazel ointment on some insect or spider bites (not sure what bit me). There was an article in a health magazine giving different remedies from different perspectives. One mentioned witch hazel. The bites on both feet were bright red, inflamed and very hot, and swollen and itchy. I knew it would become worse if I scratched them, but I did not think I would be able to go to sleep. I applied the witch hazel salve and it took out the itch immediately. Next day I soaked my feet in Epsom salts and then applied a baking soda paste (which is supposed to draw out any poison). I applied the WH salve about 3 times a day for 4 days - they were bad, so it took that long. If any of the bite sites start to itch again, I apply the salve to them. Magic - no itch. Oh yeah, after this email from you, I also applied tea tree oil after showering and before the salve. The  salve seems to work on hemorrhoids too. I did know that witch hazel is effective for them. I have used witch hazel in liquid form for blisters on my feet in the past. They shrink and disappear. Marilyn Florida

I keep witch hazel salve on hand year around. I recently tried Lynne's Witch Hazel/Yarrow salve. Thank you for letting me know about what I can use for my problems. Emma Cal.
